Potluck No. 3
A while ago I decided that I would periodically make the odd frameset with no specific customer. It would be a chance for me to stretch my legs, try different things while trying to keep the result recognisably Clandestine.
This is Potluck No. 3
I wanted to make a version of a classic British butcher’s bike. But I don’t eat meat, so obviously I thought of it as a baker’s bike.
There’s a massive frotn rack sized to still fit through a standard doorway. The rack is removable though: it’s held on with a couple of hefty M8 bolts up to and a “steerer tube” arrangement at the base. I had a lot of fun with making kind of architectural truss forms. The base of the front rack is made from Richlite, a material made of recycled paper layers crompressed together. It was originally developed as an architectural cladding material, so it’s waterproof, really strong, and on a rough uncut edge you can see the paper layers like slate.
The simple Alfine hub gear setup keeps the bike really eazy to liove with, and the low standover makes for easy on/off for short urban trips. I machined an aluminium light mount so the SON lamp could be tucked safely on the front mudguard, and the stem has a Lion Bellworks bell built in. I also really enjoyed the beefy twin plate fork and seat tube sleeve.
The baker’s bike rode away from Bespoked Manchester 2025, into the wilds of the city…
