Cradle Pedals

At the beginning of 2026, MKS got in touch with me about working together on a special pedal.

MKS have been making bicycle pedals since 1946. And they’re really good at it. Their pedal bodies are cold forged, the bearings and bearing surfaces beautifully polished for incredible smoothness and perfectly adjusted for great longevity. MKS pedals exude a kind of classic svelte elegance much sought after in a sea of bulky black componentry.

I grew up mountain biking, so there are influences in my design from vintage Shimano mountain bike pedal cages, and Brooklyn Machine Works’ iconic Shin Burger pedals. But really I designed this pedal for the kind of bikes I mostly make: touring bikes where you want a big supportive platform, but with less savage shoe destroying pins than an MTB pedal, and more elegance…

The two plates on each end of the pedal reference the twin plates on my fork crowns, and create a larger surface area for your feet.

Both plates are slightly curved to create a hollow for your foot. The inner plates are also a little smaller than the outer plates so the whole pedal is concave both left to right and front to back, cradling your foot.
